The Xscape opened its doors on the Indianapolis west side at the end of 2008 in a mall that had recently been hit hard by the loss of two of its department stores. With the economy reeling, The Xscape was looked to in order to help bring new business to the area, and The Xscape looked to NetStuffers to help them collect a customer database and begin email marketing.

The goal was simple, but starting an email campaign from scratch is not easy. Email lists cannot legally be purchased due to the CAN-SPAM Act of 2003, so The Xscape had to ask for customers to opt-in to their email list. Once they had their emails, they needed to ensure they did not appear "spammy" so customers would not unsubscribe. They needed a clean newsletter template that matched their brand and contained only relative information that their customers would enjoy.

With a NetStuffers campaign prepared, they began aggressively capturing e-mail addresses using an integrated form on their website and comment cards in their facility. Within six months, they had successfully captured over 3,000 email addresses and continue to average 300 subscribers per month.

But increasing the database size means nothing if users are not engaged with the content. Sending one email per month that contains only relevent information, the Xscape has had less than .01% of its members unsubscribe, and enjoys healthy open rates well above the entertainment industries average.
